Cutting-edge V&V for automated systems

Verification and Validation (V&V) of automated systems are becoming more costly and time-consuming and numerous of security threats and cybersecurity attacks are targeting the industry. Since 2020 QRTECH is involved in the EU-funded VALU3S project, with the aim to design, implement, and evaluate state-of-the-art V&V methods and tools.

By definition, automated systems are expected to autonomously and safely interact with the environment in which they operate. To make sure that the systems function in the intended way and according to specifications, Verification and Validation (V&V) processes are performed from the very initial system design phase to the final testing phases and beyond. However, V&V of automated systems are becoming more costly and time-consuming (because of increasing size and complexity) and numerous of security threats and cybersecurity attacks are targeting the industry.

Since 2020 QRTECH is involved in the EU-funded VALU3S project, with the aim to design, implement, and evaluate state-of-the-art V&V methods and tools. VALU3S brings together a consortium with industrial partners from 10 different countries, as well as leading research institutes and universities to reach the project goal. In VALU3S, 13 use cases with specific safety, security and privacy requirements are studied in detail. QRTECH’s involvement and contribution to the project are within the automotive domain, where we focus on reducing time and cost for V&V of cybersecurity requirements (we use penetration testing and threat modelling methods in our use cases).

QRTECH has a long history in various types of research projects. Our goal is to secure QRTECH’s position in the frontlines of strategic technology areas. Our work is long-term and we aim to contribute to the sustainable development of society. We are proud to expand our knowledge in an increasingly important area and contribute to new findings within the VALU3S project, that will increase safety and security of automated systems!

About VALU3S

VALU3S brings together a consortium with partners from 10 different countries, with a mix of industrial partners (24 partners) from automotive, agriculture, railway, healthcare, aerospace and industrial automation and robotics domains as well as leading research institutes (6 partners) and universities (10 partners) to reach the project goal. VALU3S has received funding from the ECSEL Joint Undertaking (JU) under grant agreement No 876852. The JU receives support from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme.
