Backer selects QRTECH to co-develop next-gen electric heating platform for commercial vehicles.
Backer Group, a global leader in heating technology, has partnered with QRTECH to develop a scalable new generation of electric heaters for heavy-duty electric and hybrid vehicles.
The collaboration focuses on creating a unified heater platform that is communication-agnostic, modular, and optimised for volume production. As electric drivetrains continue to replace combustion engines, the need for efficient and reliable heating systems becomes critical – especially in environments where traditional waste heat is no longer available.
QRTECH will take lead responsibility for electronics and embedded software architecture, including support for EMC and high-voltage internal testing. This marks a continuation of the companies’ long-standing relationship, with QRTECH previously managing the full software lifecycle for Backer’s current-generation cabin heaters.
“QRTECH impressed us with their deep technical know-how and structured approach to embedded systems and ECU development,” says Victor Almblad, Tech Manager OEM at Backer Group. “Their certifications, testing capabilities and team professionalism gave us great confidence in this collaboration.”
The new platform is designed with long-term flexibility in mind – not just for trucks, but for other high-power applications in sectors such as rail, marine, and aerospace.
Backer Group develops, produces and sells customised solutions and components for electrical heating, measurement and control to industries such as HVAC, transportation, energy & environment, home appliances, industrial & projects, advanced technology and commercial equipment. Headquartered in Sösdala, Sweden, Backer has a global presence with more than 80 companies and 11 400 employees worldwide. Their mission is to deliver optimal technical solutions with the highest possible quality at globally competitive prices.
